FAQs

  • Depending on what species and what your goals are, you can prune trees year round. It is important to prune trees for the overall health and safety of the tree.

  • Yes! Native trees are great for the environment and your yard. Check out Portland’s Native Tree List here. Native trees are always a good idea to plant in Portland. As climates change, drought-tolerant tree species like Persian Ironwood, Oregon Ash, and the Ponderosa Pine are good ideas too.

  • Yes, if the tree is larger than 12 inches in diameter you are required to obtain a permit. You can review Portland’s Tree Removal Guidelines here. If needed, we are more than happy to assist you with permit application.

  • Yes, if the tree is larger than 12 inches in diameter you are required to replace it. More information on replacing cut trees in Portland here.

  • I would call PGE, and they would send a crew to get the branches 10 feet away from the power lines. If you need further work done after that, we can assist you!

  • If a tree falls down on your property, you should call a tree care service right away. Leighton’s Limb Service can have someone out to assess and advise next steps ASAP.

  • We have the ability to climb just about any tree. We can lower down small pieces of branches and wood on ropes in a safe manner.

  • Yes, you are entitled to cut a tree back to your own property line, but it is encouraged to get neighborly permission and documentation to be better able to climb the tree and make quality cuts back to the trunk.

  • We try our best to prevent any damage to landscapes by having branches and wood coming down safely on ropes. We also can cover plants with trash bins and transplant smaller shrubs as well that might be in our way.

  • Yes, please! We need a 3 car-length space available on the road or driveway for our truck and chipper, as well as a clear path to drag branches from tree site to truck.
